We have extensive experience with several media, from mobile to web to embedded medical devices, which demonstrates our broad grasp of a user-centric approach to solutions.

User Experience UX

Our approach is to start here - every point of contact is considered, explored, and planned.

Interaction Design IxD

We create interactive products and services that feel natural, personal, and appeal to peoples emotions.

User Research UR

We observe out in the field - context of use - to have empathy for the people we are helping with a new experience.

Testing & Prototypes

We build and test ideas with users, programmers - iteration before implementation.

User Interface UI

We bring a conceptual approach grounded in utility and detailed follow through.

Technology Understanding

Working within the constraints of the platform (mobile, embedded, etc.), schedule, we build designs that meet the needs of users and the clients.

We focus on synthesizing usability in a design vision with the knowledge of how we will transfer the assets to our clients.

We create all the detailed images, motion timing, assets needed for the programmers. Think of it this way - architects create the experience and structural engineers implement the shared vision.

Teaching HCI Human Computer Interaction @ CSUMB

Rick has been teaching HCI at California State University, Monterey Bay since 2018. The twice yearly course covers history, theories, and the latest innovations (such as AI & AR). The animation above shows the class flow over 16 weeks. The students explore each step in the process while doing a design project that results in an interactive prototype, a “Road Show” concept.

Rick’s HCI experience started, before IxD / UI / UX disciplines were established while working in the office of Henry Dreyfuss who wrote the seminal book “Designing for People”. As a trained Industrial Designer we were always thinking about how people use things. We went out in the field to observe people talking on phones or exercising for example. Form still follows function.

While studying graduate design at Cranbrook Academy of Art. Rick received a coveted Braun Prize for an interactive product concept where he created the product and interface design. Hardware and software in harmony. Since then he led complex user experience projects at IDEO and frogdesign prior to starting seven02 in July 2002.
